February Focus

Regional Manager- Linda Anderson

I am currently planning the activities for the next few months.  Over Easter there will be a strong focus on driver fatigue.  This will be in conjunction with Police who will also focus on drink driving and speed.  These are all contributing factors in some of the worst crashes in Hawkes Bay in the past. 
I am also working with the Project Team currently preparing the HB Youth Alcohol Expo, this is held from the 13th-17th May 2013 at the Pettigrew Green Arena.  The Expo provides a hard hitting look at alcohol and the consequences of this when a vehicle crashes.  These crashes affect the drivers, passengers and other road users.
I would like to wish you all safe travels over the Easter weekend.  Sleep well before travelling, take plenty of rest stops along the way, drink plenty of water and drive to the conditions.

Central HB Road Safety Coordinator
Kate Taylor

Kate is currently working on local activities that will focus on youth drink driving and raising the awareness of the risks of driving impaired.  Kate will also be developing some activities that focus on Loss of Control.  The contributing factors include driver fatigue, speed, alcohol and driver distraction.  Kate is also implementing a Fatigue Stop in Waipukurau on Easter Monday 2013.  If you are travelling south stop in and have a coffee.

Wairoa Road Safety Coordinator -
Kae Schlierike

Kae will be focussing on the development of new Billboards for the Wairoa District.  Kae is working with the local High School to develop unique Billboards that reflect the nature of the area.
Kae is also developing some new concepts to raise awareness of the benefits of host responsibility.  These include registering your party with the Police.  An information pack is sent to the organiser, the pack includes practical information on planning to party safely including providing sober driver options, substantial food and non-alcohol drinks.

Tamariki In The Car-Child Restraint Coordinators - Liz and Fiona

Liz and Fiona are currently planning the next few months activities.  They are booking Early Childhood Centre visits.  During these visits they educate the children about child restraints and also encourage parents to keep their children restrained in Booster Seats until the reach the height of 148cm or the age of Nine.  They also offer the service of checking child restraints in vehicles.

Road Safe HB Administrator -Alison Jessep

Alison Jessep is currently working on systems to improve  event management.  Road Safe HB Coordinator staff implement a number of events.  Transporting equipment to these events takes considerable planning.  Alison is also creating a list of all the display material used by the staff.
