The Road Safe HB restraint educators attended the Camberley Family Day….this was an opportunity to further promote the new law change around children remaining in a restraint till they are 7 years of age. The restraint team promote that although the law is around age the recommendation is to leave a child in a standards approved restraint until they are 148cm tall.
Road Safe are always happy to get some help with their projects so it was great to see some Hawke's Bay kids getting involved. The regions Road Safety Manager Linda Anderson said ‘it is always very pleasing to see the young ones participating in the road safety education…it makes sense, they are our future drivers.
During the ‘text off’ campaign one of the activities was to distribute 18,000 flyers to residential addresses across the region. Eden was very keen to help! While Benjamin & Alexander wanted to support the road safety work that their mum does and asked how they could help….it was decided that they could help make up information packs, the Road Safe HB team make around 5000 bags to be handed out over the Christmas and New Year period.” Rhythm and Vines is one of the regions largest concerts held in Gisborne. Large numbers attend and this increases traffic volumes across the greater region. A joint fatigue stop including Police and Road Safe HB was held at Raupunga on the 27th December 2013. This was in conjunction with other Road Safety Coordinators in surrounding areas. The stop was also supported by Students Against Drunk Driving from Wairoa College.
The Road Safe HB team continued the December month long campaign and joined Police for the 13th-14th December. The significance of these dates is Operation Unite. This is a joint Australasian activity that focuses on sober driving. The purpose is to raised awareness of the risks of driving impaired either by drugs or alcohol.
